The SCG was first opened in 1851. The first grandstand built was the original Members stand in 1878. The Brewongle Stand was built soon after on the opposite side of the ground. When the first Test match at the SCG was held in 1882, there were two spectator mounds between the Grandstands – The Hill and the Paddington Hill. In 1978, six light towers were built so that cricket could be played at night. The Sydney Swans moved to the SCG in 1982 and since then the SCG has had a number of renovations with stands being replaced and new scoreboards. Over the years the SCG has hosted Rugby League (including 6 State of Origin matches), Rugby Union and Soccer matches.
